Put Off, Put On
Paul tells the Colossians to set their minds on things above and put to death whatever belongs to their earthly nature, i.e. the flesh: sexual immorality, impurity, evil desire, anger, malice. Because these things come so naturally from our hearts this requires a work of the Spirit and daily, deliberate choices. But Paul doesn't stop at putting off, he says put on: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love, which binds it all together in perfect unity. The Lens You Look Through
Every person sees the world through a lens shaped by upbringing, experience, relationships, and culture. None of us arrived at our beliefs in a vacuum. The danger is not that we have a worldview—everyone does. The danger is when we never examine it. Paul’s call to be transformed by the renewing of the mind is a call to submit our lens to God’s Word. When Scripture becomes the primary filter through which we interpret life, we stop being shaped by whatever is loudest in our culture and start being shaped by what is eternally true. Your lens determines what you see.
The Renewal of Your Mind
You act the way you act because you think the way you think. This simple truth unlocks the mystery of transformation. Our behaviors flow from our beliefs, and our beliefs are shaped by what we focus on. Paul instructs us to fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. This isn’t positive thinking; it’s truth-centered thinking. When you fill your mind with God’s Word, worship, and truth, your perspective shifts. What once seemed impossible becomes possible. What once felt unnatural becomes your new normal. Transformation doesn’t happen through willpower alone but through renewed thinking. Today, audit your thought life. What are you dwelling on? What messages are you consuming? Replace one lie you’ve been believing with a truth from Scripture. As your mind is renewed, your life will follow.
Reconstruct With Truth
Transformation happens through the renewal of your mind—testing and discerning God's good, acceptable, and perfect will. You've examined the blocks; now it's time to rebuild intentionally. Not every teaching you received was false. Not every experience was harmful. Don't throw out truth with error. As you reconstruct, focus on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. Build with Jesus' words, practiced in relationship with Him. Invite Him into every area—your relationships, sexuality, finances, anxiety, purpose. He doesn't just give rules; He offers Himself. The Midnight Seeker
Nicodemus came to Jesus under cover of darkness, carrying questions his religious credentials couldn't answer. Despite his knowledge and position, he recognized something was missing. Like Nicodemus, many of us approach Jesus respectfully, even hopefully, yet remain spiritually unborn. Jesus' response cuts through our accomplishments:
Heaven Invading Earth
God’s ultimate plan is not escape from earth but renewal of it. Heaven is not just a future destination—it’s a present mission. Every act of obedience, love, justice, and compassion becomes a glimpse of what’s coming. You are an ambassador of heaven, carrying God’s presence into broken places. One day, all things will be made new. Until then, God invites you to live as a preview of that future. When you bring hope, truth, and love into the world, heaven invades earth through you.
