## Jesus Is in the Boat

September 17th, 2026

The disciples’ fear in the middle of the storm made sense based on their experience—they were fishermen who knew how dangerous storms could be. But they had forgotten to account for the most important difference: Jesus was in the boat with them. We can do the same thing when anxiety takes over; we can focus so completely on the storm that we forget who is with us in it. Jesus may calm the storm, or He may allow us to walk through it, but His presence means we do not have to face it alone.

### You Are Not Alone

When Jesus told His disciples that He was leaving, they had plenty of reasons to be anxious about the future. They were about to lose His physical presence and would have to navigate life and ministry without Him beside them. But Jesus promised that they would not be left as orphans because the Holy Spirit would come to be with them and live within them. Our peace is not based on having everything figured out or knowing how everything will turn out; our peace begins with knowing that God is with us.

### Proof That He Is Real

Paul’s question in Acts 19 is one of the most searching questions in the New Testament. He did not ask whether the disciples had heard about the Holy Spirit. He asked whether they had received Him. The distinction matters enormously. Knowledge about the Spirit and experience of the Spirit are not the same thing. Throughout the book of Acts, the arrival of the Holy Spirit was always recognizable. People knew something had happened. God never intended the Spirit’s presence to be invisible, unfelt, or purely theoretical. The Holy Spirit is the living proof that God is with you. That proof, by its very nature, must be experienced.

### Responding to God’s Presence

The psalmist invites us to “come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker.” This is a call to recognize the extraordinary privilege of God’s presence. David’s excitement about the Ark wasn’t about an object—it was about proximity to the living God. Today, we have something even greater: the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. God Himself resides in our hearts. How should this reality shape our worship? If Jesus physically walked into your room right now, you would naturally respond with reverence, awe, and joy. That same Jesus is present with you through His Spirit every moment. Don’t let familiarity diminish wonder. Respond appropriately to the presence of God today with physical expressions of honor and gratitude.

### Presence Over Answers

Sometimes God gives answers. Often, He gives something better—His presence. In your valley of questions, you may be demanding explanations when God is offering companionship. The psalmist didn't say,
