Hope.

Eat With Hope
Communion looks backward and forward at the same time. We remember what Jesus has done, but we also anticipate the day when He will return and complete His work of salvation. We live in the “in-between”—Jesus has saved us, but we are still waiting for everything to be made right. When we take communion, we proclaim His death until He comes. It is a meal of remembrance, but it is also a meal of hope.
When Life Hurts
Suffering is a reality of following Jesus. Paul doesn’t minimize our pain or pretend that difficult seasons aren’t difficult. Instead, he reminds us that our present suffering is not the end of the story. God has promised a future glory where sin, brokenness, and death will be fully overcome. Our hope isn’t simply that we can survive what we’re facing today. Our hope is that God is making all things new.

Growth Through Conviction and Difficulty
Paul begins by reminding us that because we've been justified by faith and we already have peace with God, not earned, but given. From that secure place he says something surprising: we can even rejoice in sufferings, because suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope (Rom. 5:4). This isn't gritted-teeth optimism; it's possible because God's love has already been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, He's given us. Following Christ’s way is often a slow and difficult process. It will require us to trust that God is still working on us when we can’t see it. Difficulty is not the evidence we are abandoned. The Spirit works to remind us to give ourselves to the process of becoming what He already made us to be.

Living with an Eternal Perspective
The Holy Spirit also convicts concerning judgment because

Hope Beyond Understanding
God cannot always make sense to us because His perspective is eternal. He sees the entire story while we see only one page. This reality requires trust, not complete understanding. The disciples trusted Jesus into death because the resurrection gave them hope beyond this life. They suffered the loss of all things because they knew Jesus would give them something immeasurably better. Your faith will only thrive when it's anchored in eternal hope, not temporary comfort. God's purpose isn't merely our happiness but our holiness and His glory across generations. Trust begins at the cross and deepens through relationship. Engage Jesus in your suffering. Ask Him to meet you there. He will, because He's already been there Himself.

From Death to Life
Death entered the world through sin, fracturing humanity’s relationship with God and unraveling creation itself. What we experience today—broken relationships, anxiety, injustice, and despair—is evidence of that rupture. Creation groans, and so do we. But God did not abandon His world. Even in Genesis 3, He was already moving toward redemption. Romans 8 reminds us that groaning is not the end of the story—it’s the labor before restoration. Your struggles are not signs of God’s absence; they are reminders that this world is not yet what it will be. The ache you feel points you toward hope. God is restoring what sin has broken, and the promise of new life is already unfolding.
