Take 20 ## A Word That Builds Up August 26th, 2026 Paul tells the Corinthians to pursue love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy — because the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding, encouragement, and consolation. That's the heart behind the gift of prophecy: the Spirit supernaturally speaking to you or through you, to strengthen someone right where they are. Paul actually wishes everyone would prophesy, because a timely word from God does something no generic encouragement can — it tells someone God sees them. Growing in this gift takes confidence, not perfection. Just as athletes train better with partners who push them, your faith flourishes in community. The early church experienced “a deep sense of awe” because they were being transformed together. They didn’t just attend services; they did life together. When you isolate yourself spiritually, you miss the sharpening, encouraging, and challenging that comes from walking alongside other believers. God designed community to be the greenhouse where your faith grows. You need people who will celebrate your victories, challenge your blind spots, and remind you of God’s truth when you forget. Today, ask yourself: Who is speaking into my spiritual life? Who am I encouraging toward Jesus?
