description: "Paul discovered that an open door did not automatically mean it was the door God wanted him to walk through. Although an opportunity for ministry was available in Troas, Paul recognized that something was not right within him and chose to move on. This reminds us that opportunities and circumstances must be discerned rather than automatically interpreted as God's direction. Not every open door is our door, and not every closed door means God has said no forever; we need Scripture, prayer, the Holy Spirit, and wise counsel to understand what God is doing."

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.

Reading: **2 Corinthians 2**

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
**
Paul discovered that an open door did not automatically mean it was the door God wanted him to walk through. Although an opportunity for ministry was available in Troas, Paul recognized that something was not right within him and chose to move on. This reminds us that opportunities and circumstances must be discerned rather than automatically interpreted as God's direction. Not every open door is our door, and not every closed door means God has said no forever; we need Scripture, prayer, the Holy Spirit, and wise counsel to understand what God is doing.**
**
Where might you be assuming that an opportunity is God’s direction simply because the door is open?**

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: **Father, help us trust You when Your direction does not make immediate sense. Give us patience when a door remains closed and wisdom when many doors appear open. Protect us from rushing ahead simply because an opportunity is available, and teach us to wait for Your timing and direction. Amen.**
3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.

**Faith Step:**
Identify one opportunity you are considering and evaluate it through Scripture, prayer, the Holy Spirit’s leading, and wise counsel rather than circumstances alone.
