Expecting God to Work

Expecting God to Work

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.

Reading: Acts 3

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

Peter and John encountered a situation they could not solve through ordinary human ability, but they trusted the power of Jesus and acted in faith. The miracle that followed was not a demonstration of Peter and John’s greatness; it was the Holy Spirit working through them. This reminds us that supernatural power is not given to make us impressive but to accomplish God’s purposes and point people toward Jesus. We should learn to look for opportunities where God may want to work beyond what we can naturally accomplish.

Where have you become so accustomed to relying on your own ability that you have stopped expecting God to work beyond what you can accomplish?

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

  1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
  2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Father, remind us that the calling You have given us cannot always be accomplished through our natural abilities alone. Help us depend on Your power rather than our own strength. Give us opportunities to participate in what You are doing and the humility to give You the glory when You work through us. Amen.
  3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.

Faith Step:
Ask God to show you one place today where you can step beyond your natural ability and trust Him to work.
