Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: Hebrews 4:12-16; Psalm 139:23-24; Hebrews 10:24-25
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
How does the Holy Spirit convict us? Most often, He speaks through God's Word, through prayer, through other believers, and even through life's circumstances. Scripture exposes what is hidden in our hearts. Prayer creates space for the Spirit to search us. Mature believers help us recognize blind spots we cannot see on our own. Even seasons of discipline become loving invitations to return to God.
The greatest danger isn't that God stops speaking. The greatest danger is that we stop listening. Delayed obedience hardens our hearts until His voice becomes more difficult to recognize. But every act of obedience softens our hearts and increases our sensitivity to His leading. As you consistently respond to the Holy Spirit, He develops within you a godly conscience that naturally draws you toward Jesus.
Is there something the Holy Spirit has already spoken to me that I have delayed obeying?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Holy Spirit, give me a soft and responsive heart. Search me, reveal anything that needs to change, and give me the courage to obey quickly when You speak. Thank You for speaking through Your Word, through prayer, through other believers, and through the circumstances of my life. Help me never become resistant to Your voice but to walk closely with You each day. Amen.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Faith Steps:
- Spend time praying Psalm 139:23-24, asking God to search your heart honestly.
- Identify one area where you have delayed obedience and take the first step toward responding today.
